Virtual Residential Services (VR)

Virtual Residential Services (VR) is an intensive, home-based service designed to help children remain safely at home and prevent out-of-home placement or support a successful transition home following an out-of-home placement. VR provides a structured, residential-level approach within the child’s natural environment, allowing the treatment team to address behaviors and family needs as they occur in real time.

VR typically involves 20–40 hours per week of child and family participation and emphasizes hands-on support, psychoeducation, skill development, and crisis response. The service focuses on helping children and caregivers better understand and manage behaviors while building healthier, more stable family relationships.

Areas of Support

VR may provide support and skill development in:

  • De-escalation and crisis response

  • Parenting strategies and behavior management

  • Coping and emotional regulation skills

  • Effective communication

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution

  • Strengthening relationships and family functioning

  • Understanding and managing challenging behaviors

  • Connecting families with appropriate community resources

  • Coordination with other treatment providers and professionals

Treatment Team

Services are provided by a collaborative treatment team consisting of 2–4 clinicians, including a lead clinician and supervisor. The team works closely with the child, family, and other involved professionals to develop and implement individualized strategies based on the child’s needs.

The treatment team provides ongoing support, coordinates care, connects families with needed resources, and responds to crises when they arise. Weekly team meetings are held to review progress, coordinate services, and ensure that all appropriate members of the child’s support system remain involved in the treatment process.

VR is designed to provide intensive, individualized support where it matters most—in the home and within the family’s everyday environment—while building the skills and stability needed for long-term success.
