Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS)
Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS) is an individualized, goal-directed service designed to help adults with serious mental health conditions develop and maintain the skills needed to achieve greater independence, community stability, and the highest level of functioning possible in the least restrictive environment.
MHSS provides personalized skills training, psychoeducation, and support based on each individual’s identified needs and goals. Services focus on strengthening daily functioning, promoting self-regulation, and building the skills necessary to live safely and independently in the community.
Areas of Support
MHSS may provide training and assistance with:
Functional skills, health and safety, and appropriate behaviors
Activities of daily living and independent living skills
Accessing and effectively using community resources
Medication management and adherence
Monitoring health, nutrition, and physical wellbeing
Developing skills for self-monitoring, self-regulation, and long-term independence
Who We Serve
MHSS is designed primarily for individuals age 21 and older, with limited exceptions for individuals ages 18–21 who are transitioning to independent living. Recipients must have a qualifying DSM-5 mental health diagnosis that significantly impacts daily functioning and major life activities. Individuals typically have a history of mental health treatment or crisis service needs and may have a current or recent history of psychiatric medication use.
